Music for babes in arms and toddlers, from newborns to 3-year-olds! An opera singer accompanied by a Pygmalion instrumentalist (lute, viola, or harp) offers workshops combining nursery rhymes in several languages, pieces from the classical repertoire, and sign-language songs. The musicians invite children and their carers to participate throughout the session. In nurseries and early childhood centres, these sessions are complemented by discussions and training offered to professionals to give them the keys to continuing musical practice.
Les Pyg’chounes have carried out projects with several nurseries in Bordeaux, at the nursery overseen by the Centre Départemental de l’Enfance et de la Famille in Eysines, at the Gribouille nursery in Talence, and with the network of childminders in the town of Floirac. In 2022–2023, Les Pyg’chounes, with Cécile Dalmon (soprano) and Diego Salamanca (theorbo player), were in residence at the Carle Vernet nursery (Bordeaux), and in 2023–2025 at the Gaspard Philippe nursery. Inspired and guided by the musicians, the children sang well-known nursery rhymes and also discovered excerpts from the classical repertoire (Brahms, Monteverdi, Purcell) in a joyful and peaceful atmosphere.
