Drawing inspiration from Monteverdi’s Orfeo, now considered the first opera in history, this show highlights the voice as a burst of life, animated by the experience of singing and the powerful effect it can have on our being. Orpheus is the central figure, singing even in the depths of darkness, as a call to life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everyone can name a song or singer that is particularly close to their heart. This is the case for the three characters who open this tale, Eug\u00e9nie, Orion and Harry: without even realising it, the evocation of their tastes in this area says a lot about their intimacy and sensitivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, their discussion takes them elsewhere: through a series of twists and turns, they end up telling the story of Orpheus, who went to Hell trying to bring his beloved Eurydice back to life. Eug\u00e9nie, Orion and Harry now embody various characters in this drama: Eurydice and Orpheus, of course, but also Aristaeus \u2013 who rivals Orpheus for Eurydice’s love \u2013 and Hades, the god of the Underworld. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their narration, performed, sung and expressed through all the arts (music, dance, object manipulation, etc.), culminates in the famous scene where Orpheus looks at Eurydice, a glance forbidden by the gods on pain of seeing her disappear forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2600\ufe0f This production will be performed on 20 January at 10 a.m. at the Eden Cinema in Pauillac and at the R\u00e9olais en Sud-Gironde inter-communal music school in La R\u00e9ole at 7 p.m.; on 27 January at 7pm at the Salle des f\u00eates in Prignac-et-Marcamps; and on 3 February at 2.30pm at the Grand Th\u00e9\u00e2tre in Bordeaux.
